the legal right to choice and sodomy laws. Think about the fact that anyone who would force a women to be pregnant will most likely try to force you back into the closet or to be "cured".)

All in all, we know what Voinovich will do for us the same thing he did for us as mayor of Cleveland-nothing. With Celebrezze we at least get a chance. We can expect Celebrezze to veto State Sen. Gary Suhadolnik's anti-gay adoption bill if it ever got to his desk; we can expect Voinovich to sign it. We can expect Celebrezze to uphold Celeste's executive order protecting lesbian and gay state em-

Vail has used this letter to raise funds and recruit campaign volunteers, and has used our endorsement of Fingerhut as a campaign issue. We were not the only people appalled by her shortsightedness and her homophobic attitude. Even the Plain Dealer has suggested she apologize to us, which she hasn't.

She needs to learn that lesbians and gays represent family values also. She needs to know about lesbian mothers and gay fathers; about our mothers and fathers who would be shocked to know that their queer sons and daughters aren't really members of their families.

Talk about "family." Vail is the woman who, a few years ago, made news getting a Board of Education order so her daughter, humiliated by the whole affair, could sing an inappropriate Jesus song to her elementary school. (Maybe we should have a long talk with her about what is abusive.) We cannot let her make this race into a heterosexist, right-wing, fundamentalist Christian victory at our expense. If elected, she will be a worse enemy than Gary Suhadolnik. Don't let it happen. Don't let her win.

If you live in Senate District 25, which

flawless, cocktail-party drag queens). In this way gay men and lesbians can break through the barriers of prejudice and be judged as people, rather than caricatures.

To illustrate this point, look at the Hardwick v. Bowers Supreme Court case in which the Georgia sodomy law was upheld. Justice Powell voted at one time to strike the law, and then changed his mind. He reportedly said that he had never known a gay person in his life. Ironically, his own law clerk was gay, but not out. If that man had been out and had been able to have a frank and open dialogue with the judge, perhaps Justice Powell would have voted the other way and we wouldn't have sodomy laws in America today.

So, another way of celebrating NCOD is to just joyfully "get it on" with another practicing queer (practice makes perfect!) and openly celebrate sodomy together.

NGRA put out a strong statement: "Our silence is allowing society to make the rules for us by defining who we are, and what we can hope to achieve in life. Our silence is allowing ignorance and intolerance to play decisive roles in our lives." With this in mind we'd be well advised to take a pointer from ACT UP activists and stop being silent. As a variation on the classic Paddy Chayevsky movie, Network, I want you all to go to the window and shout, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore, Mary!" and then give the loudest queen scream you can muster.

ployees; we can expect Voinovich to trash it. We can expect Voinovich to take a woman's right to choose away--and then start on the queers; we can expect Celebrezze to stay away from our private lives and private decisions.

We can expect all that but we need to vote to see that it will happen. Vote for Tony Celebrezze on November 6. Give yourself and the rest of us a chance. Remember, "For Love and For Life We Won't Go Back." Don't send us back to the dark ages; fight for your rights and vote!

includes eastern suburbs and the Shaker Square area, vote for Eric Fingerhut. He is truly our friend and the sooner we can get him elected the better.

Call Loren Loving Vail and tell her that you live in the 25th and you want to tell her what family is all about. Make her stay on the phone with you till she really hears about your family no matter how nontraditional it is. If you happen to see her out campaigning, remind her that she owes the Chronicle an apology. Someone we know did this to her at Beachwood Mall and her reaction was worth the price of a ticket. Challenge her; you live in the district, you have that right.

If you don't live in the 25th District, volunteer for Eric Fingerhut anyway; send him money, put up signs, do anything so Vail doesn't get elected. We are fighting for our lives and our dignity. Eric Fingerhut is committed to civil rights for all people, not just white heterosexuals. Show him we appreciate his efforts; help him get elected.▼

Perhaps throw a pair of high heels out the window, just for added dramatic effect.

NCOD is calling for a very individual plan, in which the gay person goes one step further in his or her personal coming out process and expression of gay pride.

This could mean a gay man or lesbian who is out at work would go one step further and proudly display his or her significant other's picture (for some of us, that might mean an entire wall mural of all our lovers/affairs/tricks. Or possibly a group shot of everyone on our local football, baseball, and basketball teams).

NCOD participation may mean that a lesbian mother comes out at her child's PTA meeting, where the child has two parents and they're both female or maybe one parent is a turkey baster.

Part of observing NCOD could be making the decision to stop the practice of “degaying" one's home when straight people

If all else fails, take this newspaper onto the bus or into a restaurant and open to this page; you'll be instantly out, because only a real fruitcake would read this article!

However you choose to participate in NCOD, do it in your own uniquely gay and glorious way. As for me, I have to dash now gotta dry clean my nun's habit and get my wimple blocked.
